More of Something Different but Related

 

I've got a lot of stuff to clear out of the freezer in the next month.
Somehow I'll manage to choke down a gallon of ice cream and other assorted freezer burnt bits and bobs of crap. (like the frozen takoyaki that I don't totally regret getting, but can't say as I recommend either)

But as it is I should button up a couple more posts and start some cleaning and sorting in preparation of the upcoming big move. If I can throw an hour or two at it a few times a week or so it should be much more manageable.



Chisel (2003)


This is actually and weirdly enough a follow up to the previous post concerning 13 Hertz.

Hi Fi seems to be where the drummer Kent Mortimer hung his shingle after 13 Hertz and along with a Dan Page and Andrew Honigman made the fifth band on Discogs to call themselves Hi Fi

It's a weird amalgam of AOR/MOR, pop rock with odd touches and a bit of contemporary bar blues band and strings thrown in for good measure.

Once again it's another disc I'm pretty sure that someone gave me. 2003 is a weird in-between bands year though by my faulty memory. So I'm not sure the whens and whys. But here it is. I have a copy and all I know is that I didn't shell out any cash for it. I played it once, stuck it on the shelf and it sat there until I decided that I was going to do this MN blog.

Tonight it sounds a lot more interesting than I remember it being. Still not completely convinced, but I can see it's got more to offer than my dim first impression memories from 18 years ago would have me believe. 


I sometimes wonder what that pompous asshole was thinking back then.

  So here were are. The deal is that I've got too much fucking stuff that I think people ought to hear and not enough time or space in which to do it on one blog. I've also been in the Twin Cities for a long ass time and have seen, heard and played with so many really good bands that it seems a shame that nobody has heard them. So I've made this even dumber blog thing to flog the local tomfoolery for your dancing and dining pleasure. Even in Minnesota, they could really give a rat's ass about your local band until you get enough recognition somewhere else that they'll proudly claim you as "From Minnesota". I mean, if you take someone iconic like Bob Dylan, who generally needs no introduction, he's inevitably referred to as "Minnesota Native Bob Dylan" any time he's brought up on local media. Volume 4

 Well, it's later the same night and I finally killed that jug of local gin I'd bought this summer. Twin Town Music Yearbook Volume Four (2001) Tracklist at Discogs Another one where I don't know where to start. So I won't. Just listen already. Suffice it to say that this one has a number of things that have caused me to flip through many a local bin searching for long forgotten goodness and bunch of adds to the old wantlist.
