Um...Nothing...Whatever...

I miscounted somewhere along the line. Charm City (2000) The Selby Tigers. They came together from other bands and were a big deal for a few years because they got some attention outside the Twin Cities. They hailed from St Paul which had its own scene thing going on for a while. Which is nice since the downtown pretty much shuts down completely into a ghost town around 5pm on weekdays. These folks made a nice punk rock racket with girl/boy vocals and tight constructions. Not exactly stretching the boundaries of things you've never heard before, but it's some nice foot tapping kind of stuff. Probably goes nice with all the fucking pumpkin spice shit we're being inundated with if that's the kind of crap you're into. I'm not personally. But you do you. I just like the music.

Freedom From Expectations

Since this is kind of weird niche kind of blog it really doesn't get a whole lot of traffic. I mean, sometimes it does, but then there's not a whole lot of people usually partaking of the offerings herein. I mean, last I looked there were some things that despite some people stopping by, nobody wanted to hear. Total Fucking Blood for example. Their loss. But the beauty is that I can basically post whatever shit I want without having to live up to somebody else's unrealistic standards of what a music blog is supposed to be. Half the fucking time I don't even type anything about the music itself and just blurt out some bullshit with a few links. It works for me. It means I can get away with the laziest posts and fewer than a dozen people will even notice and most of them don't care. Trem-or Flo (1997) The band is called Tremorphlo. I picked these up quite a while ago actually. I think I was looking for someone else and got the name confused or something. It wasn...

I'm Thinking About Bacon

There's an unopened package I  got the other day in the fridge. There's tater tots in the freezer and plenty of eggs. Sounds perfect. Feral (1994) If the last post piqued your interest let me say it. Here's more. By Fauna. That is all.

Hey, My Eyes are Up Here

It's getting light out. I can almost turn out the lamp beside me. I should eat something. It's almost my bedtime. Everafter (1992) Fauna. Minneapolis shoegazers. Well, sort of. I don't know there's a lot going on in there. Does it matter? It apparently does to this guy . Quite a bit, actually. "nuff said.

Continuing

So the other week I had to reup my Advanced Cardiac Life Support credentials. Kind of a righteous pain in my night shift working ass because despite working for a 24/7 healthcare system they don't apparently feel like they need to offer evening classes for things they require providers to have and maintain. I kind of wasted my whole week off between it being hot as fuck and trying to flip my sleep schedule enough that I could stay awake for an eight hour class when I would normally be asleep. (but not too much because I also had only a single day to be prepared to start a long ass work week of nights) At least so long as there are COVIDiots and smokers out there, my continued employment is safe. Folklore (2002) Signal to Trust As previously discussed in the previous post and in the accompanying link above. This a continuation from the previous post. You get the picture. I'm done.

Coffee Coffee Coffee

Image
Last time I got coffee beans via the local coffee shop/roaster for the espresso machine I don't think they were right. Espresso is supposed to be a blend of beans to get the flavor and the rich crema that forms on top when it's poured. I think maybe that the beans weren't mixed very well or somebody forgot the Robusta beans that create the crema in the batch. We got two pounds and three weeks without any crema and generally not living our best espresso life. So new day. New beans. Time to start fresh. You can start fresh with this Dead End Expressway (1999) If you're the kind of person who likes their Rock of the Punk variety, but preferably of the Pop version then I have an album that you may enjoy. The Misfires don't set out to reinvent the wheel here. They know what they do and they do it to the best of their abilities for a solid effort. It would also seem that over time the core of the Misfires added and subtracted people to morph into a completely different b...

I Made Ice Cream

Well, more like an iced vanilla custard, I guess. Doesn't matter. De-fucking-licious. Best of Smoke-Free Saturday Nights (2004) Now here's a weird throwback item. In 2004 you could still smoke in bars. So shortlived local music weekly The Pulse of the Twin Cities was sponsoring what I believe were all ages shows where smoking was not allowed. It's like a fascinating little sonic time capsule like the blues compilation I picked up years ago in a junk shop that was a giveaway ad for antidepressants. This one doubles as a good cross section of what things sounded like at the beginning of this century in the Minneapolis/St Paul nexus. Consider it a sampler plate for a number of things to come and the only evidence of other things. and another Superhopper tune of which I feel like you cannot have too many.

Consider Yourself Warned

I'm hungry. Thinking that the cucumber/pineapple salad as discussed in the previous post should be perhaps properly chilled by this time and therefore twice as refreshing as before. I wish I had some crusty bread to go with it. That's kind of beside the point though. This is alleged to be a music blog, not an Instagram page about my eating habits. Right? Right!? Blood River Melodies (2005) The Knotwells . It's not bluegrass since the gatekeepers of that particular genre are very particular about what qualifies and make the average record store clerk/keeper of the current hipness seem entirely reasonable. I'd be hard pressed to call it New Grass either. Since that's a randomly bullshit genre invented by the people who want to play Bluegrass style music, but aren't pompous assholes with fixed rigid ideas of what qualifies. It's got some punk/rock attitude. It also has fucking banjos. Take heed of that.
